What is cosmetic tattooing?Cosmetic tattooing, or permanent makeup, is the art of implanting the right colour in the dermal layer of the skin to mimic makeup, or in the case of eyebrows, hair. This allows soft and natural results as the colour is implanted in the skin, and not on top. Initially the colour will appear more intense and as the skin heals, the colour will appear softer. Cosmetic tattooing allows you freedom from the makeup brush! You will no longer have to worry about your brows washing or sweating off, your eyeliner smudging, or constantly having to put lip colour on.
-
Does it hurt? The majority of clients are totally comfortable during procedures. Topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure is started, and applied throughout the service. This keeps clients very comfortable.
-
Do you remove all my eyebrow hair?NO! We want to work with your natural eyebrow hair because this is what will give the most natural look. The only eyebrow hair removed will be the hair outside the desired shape. Removal in those areas will also require maintenance by yourself to keep that shape looking its best.
-
Will I still have to tint my eyebrows? We generally like to work with the colour of your eyebrow hair so the tattoo blends perfectly. However, if you have grey eyebrow hairs and want brown, or very blonde and desire a slightly darker brow, then you will have to continue to tint your eyebrows. This keeps everything looking natural by blending nicely.

How do I book my appointment and what will you need from me?To book an appointment, please contact us via email (info@getalldolledup.ca) or telephone at (250) 342-3727. We will then send you a list of preliminary screening questions. Once we hear back from you, and all the pre-screening is good, we can give you some options for appointment times. A non-refundable booking fee of $100 is required to secure your appointment which comes off of the service price at the time of your appointment. 72 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

Will I need to book any additional time off work?EYEBROWS In most cases, you will be able to show off your beautiful new brows immediately without anyone knowing you just had them tattooed! They will be slightly bolder than the desired result but that will fade as your brows heal. EYELINER We would suggest taking the remainder of the day off but there is generally no reason to miss any additional work. Some clients will have swelling the next morning when they wake up however, this will dissipate within an hour or so. LIPS It's a good idea to have the day of your service. In most cases this is sufficient. The bulk of healing and shedding is (in most cases) finished by day 4 or 5.
-
Who is a good candidate for cosmetic tattooing?SO many people will benefit from cosmetic tattooing. Here are a few examples: - busy people who want a minimal beauty routine - people who struggle with application due to arthritis or poor eyesight - people who are allergic to cosmetics - people whose eyes water - people who enjoy water sports, working out, and hot holidays - people who have lost their brows due to illness - people with alopecia - people who don't want to sweat their brows off

Can I have any procedures done while I am pregnant or nursing? Our policy is NOT to tattoo any woman who is pregnant or nursing. Studies have shown anesthetic is excreted in breastmilk and we will not perform any services without anesthetic. Additionally, hormonal changes may affect the healing process and we want the best possible outcome.

I know someone who took a microblading course. What is the difference with what you offer?Carmen is a fully trained cosmetic tattoo artist with plenty of additional training courses under her belt. She is trained extensively on machine work and microblading with top artists and trainers. Contrary to popular belief, microblading is NOT appropriate for every skin type or situation. This is where a well-rounded cosmetic tattoo artist comes into play. Sadly, there are no regulations in this industry and many are taking 1-4 day microblading courses taught by newly trained individuals. This is where it is up to you, the customer, to do your homework. Ask for proof of training, pictures of work, and healed results. And always remember, your face is not something you want to bargain shop!

What can I do beforehand to prepare for my appointment? We ask you remain out of the sun as much as possible. If it is unavoidable, please use a good quality, high SPF sunscreen and apply multiple times throughout the day. We also ask you to refrain from any retinol or vitamin A products for 30 days prior to your appointment. Lash growth serums such as Latisse, EyEnvy must be discontinued for 3 months if you are having an eyeliner treatment. No alcohol or exercise the day before or day of. We will send you a detailed list of pre-procedure information we ask that you read as soon as your appointment is booked. It is very thorough and there to help you achieve the best possible results! And of course, we are available to answer any further questions you may have.
-
How long will my initial appointment take?Your initial appointment timing depends on which service you are having done. Once you book your service, we can give you an estimate of your total appointment time. Please keep in mind, your timing that day must be somewhat flexible with no pressing appointments immediately after as there are factors that can cause your appointment to go overtime.
-
Will I need more than one treatment?Again, this question is very dependant on your skin and how strictly you follow the aftercare instructions we provide you with. A follow up appointment is recommended 6-12 weeks after the initial appointment so Carmen can check how everything healed, and touch up any minor areas that may need it.
-
How long will the permanent make up last? Many factors go into how long your permanent make up will last. First and foremost, your skin is a living organ and as such, no guarantees can be given with a specific amount of time. Other factors besides your skin include skincare used, sun exposure, medications, and hormones.
-
How do I take care of my permanent make up afterwards?Sunscreen will be your friend!! Just like any tattoo, the sun can fade your tattoo. In the case of eyebrows, the sun can cause them to turn an ashy tone over time. We also highly recommend avoiding any strong retinol or vitamin a products on your entire forehead area. Just like the sun, these can also cause your eyebrows to turn an ashy tone over continued use. The better you take care of your tattooed make up, the better it will look and the longer it will last!
-
How will it look immediately afterwards?EYEBROWS - Eyebrows will have a slightly warmer tone than they will heal with. They will also appear darker on the second day as the ink oxidizes. You'll notice when healed, they will be softer in tone and slightly smaller than they were when fresh. LIPS - Lips are generally swollen immediately after the procedure. This dissipates within a few to 24 hours. Lips will also appear a much more vibrant colour than they will be when healed. EYELINER - Depending on what style of eyeliner you choose and how sensitive your skin is, you may have minor swelling. This usually peaks the next morning and will dissipate by about noon that day. Some ladies experience no swelling at all! For all services, clients do not generally experience any discomfort after the procedure. We will provide you with a day by day breakdown of what to expect when healing as part of your aftercare package.
-
I have lash extensions on. Can I still get my eyeliner tattooed? We do not tattoo any eyeliner when there are lash extensions on. It is very difficult to thoroughly clean the eye area with them on and this is essential to avoid infection. Please have them removed 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
-
I use Latisse, EyEnvy, or another lash serum and want my eyeliner tattooed. Is this ok?"Lash growth serums have been shown to change the skin around the eye area affecting the tattoo process and healed results. We ask all eyeliner clients to stop using your serum for a MINIMUM of 3 months prior to your appointment. The longer the better!
